DETROIT: $40,000 grant to go toward aquarium roof
The City of Detroit is to receive a $40,000 grant toward the cost of repairing the roof at the Belle Isle Aquarium, which closed in 2003 amid some public protest.

The state granted Detroit the money with hopes that after the fixing the roof, the city would be able to reopen the aquarium to the public. But the grant falls short of the estimated $195,000 it will take to stabilize the roof, said Vincent Anwunah, the city's general manger for planning design and construction management.

Anwunah says additional funds are to be sought through the City Planning Commission or by seeking more grant money to cover the remaining cost.
