MAYOR KILPATRICK WILL EXPLAIN CITY'S BUDGET SITUATION AND LISTEN TO
CITIZEN CONCERNS AT COMMUNITY FORUMS

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will host community forums on Feb. 8 and 10 to
explain the City's budget situation and listen to the concerns and ideas
of citizens.

"The City is facing a dire financial situation that has been 40 years in
the making," Mayor Kilpatrick said. "These forums will help citizens
better understand our current budget situation and allow them to ask
questions."

The first forum is Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Northwest Activities Center,
18100 Meyers Road at Curtis. The second forum is Thursday, Feb. 10 at
Wayne County Community College - East Campus, 5901 Conner Avenue. Both
forums are from 6 - 8 p.m.

On Jan. 12, Mayor Kilpatrick announced a series of budget cuts for the
City of Detroit necessary to combat a projected structural deficit for
2005-2006 of $230 million and to begin returning the City to solid
financial ground.

"This process demands sacrifice and cooperation from my office, City
Council, employees, unions, contractors and others who do business with
the City of Detroit," said Mayor Kilpatrick. "It also requires input
from the community we serve."

Those interesting in attending either forum should call (313) 224-4415.
