For those of you who are willing to help with fundraising, please check in and let me know your name, email addy, area you are from, and time preferences (day/evening help). We are furiously working on putting a program into action and if you can spare even just a little time to help save the aquarium, we would appreciate it. Most of the work can be completed from you home, so if travel issues have been stopping you from getting involved, we have removed that obstacle If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at mkkathy@dundee.net Thanks, KAthy |

Is there anyway we can sell t-shirts or something,we can help raise funds. Be a walking billboard. Anybody out there who can help? Sell the items at the aquarium or anywhere we can. How about a fundraiser at a hall. |

I just visited your shop link. I think you're selling the shirts too cheaply. I realize that price points can be a tough thing to set, but you guys should be charging a few dollars more. I don't think it would impact the number of shirts sold, but it would impact the revenue. |

I cannot go for personel reasons. I have to mail it. MY family is afraid to go downtown. Everytime we go we had a bad experience.I wish the aquarium sometimes was somewhere else. I have faith that someday it will be safe to go there without fear. |

That is unfortunate for you, Anonymous, because I live in the suburbs yet have spent six days of each week for the past twenty three years either taking college classes, working, or doing volunteer work in Detroit without EVER having had a single bad or even remotely unhappy experience happen to me! I don't feel that I'm particularly lucky for that either. I've always felt safe where I am and avoid areas that make me feel uneasy but truthfully, there aren't many places where I feel that uneasy in Detroit. Belle Isle is a safe place to take your family and I hope you and your family will feel better about Detroit and its surrounding areas in due time. |

My husband worked by Poletown,so he got to experience the underbelly of Detroit. Not the side they want you to see.I also used to work there on Jefferson Ave. at another building of Albert Kahns. I love his style, that is why I want the aquarium saved! The city needs to be cleaned up, that means all the unsaveable buildings to be torned down. They need to something with all that vacant land that people are using as a landfill, and remove all the fire burnt vechiles removed. If you don't beleive me go to the Delray area or by Poletown. They are too worried about those casinos,or even thery pimped up rides to care! It is just like what they say about giving rednecks money.I might be a redneck myself, but I know I could run that city better!! |

I agree with what you wrote regarding demolishing the abandoned buildings, etc. And I'm familiar with the Delray area since that's where my grandparents lived after they immigrated here. I'm all for cleaning up the city where buildings no longer being used can be torn down and other things put in its place, but when you have a building that's still structurally sound and functionable like the aquarium then I think it's worth saving. |

Debbie, I agree with you. I do not want the aquarium to close. I used to go there as a child, and as a adult.I love it there, but with all the crime it stops me.My husband refuses to go. So here I sit crying as a child, once again 8 years old wishing I could go.Just to see her at least one more time, but I keep hoping we can save her.Today I am sending in the funds I collected. I know it is not much, but I have been sick lately.I tried to put up alot of flyers from Dhts, ALLen Park, and Taylor.I wanted to do alot more,I think that is part of the reason I been under the weather because my hands are tied and I wish I could do alot more.I would be there everyday,go to all the meetings, etc.downriver |

No offense, but just because your husband refuses to go does that mean you're not allowed to? Other than for two times since January, I've been going there alone the rest of the time. I believe I've been there at least a dozen times by myself this year. I too live downriver so I take I-75 the entire way to Jefferson Ave. So long as I have gas in my tank and a working cell phone, I've never been afraid to go downtown. Belle Isle is not out in the boonies or in the ghetto. And you'd be going there in the daytime anyway. Not all of Detroit is "bad". There are bad areas in the suburbs too...Detroit has just always gotten an unfair rap, IMO. I hope you can find the courage to visit the aquarium this weekend. There will be lots of people there and it might be your last chance to see it! I just don't want you to regret missing it. |
